In the last post, I shared a the design and desserts for Marisa’s 4th birthday this year. Now comes the fun stuff – the party! The kids were welcomed by a giant bounce house, which is always a hit at any party. Just outside the bounce house, were two activity tables. One for the boys and one for the girls. The girls’ activity was inspired by the “Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique” at Disneyland where little girls can go have their hair and make up done like a princess. Each girls’ setting had a mini tiara comb, and in the center of the table were some shimmery purple and white eye shadows, lip glosses, gold sparkly eyeliner, blush, and various disposable applicators, all by e.l.f. cosmetics from Target which only cost $1 each! My favorite part of this table was the “Magic Golden Flower” hairspray I created. I bought gold shimmer hairspray that you would typically find around Halloween and created custom labels complete with directions on the back that read: “For magical glowing hair with special healing qualities: Shake well before using. Hold about twelve to eighteen inches away from hair and spray!” At the boys’ table, they were invited to join the pub thugs and “help Rapunzel live her dream” by grabbing a sword a decorating their viking helmets. I found these at Oriental trading company and they were a hit. If you have time, I would suggest gluing the horns on with a hot glue gun. The sticker provided doesn’t do the job. After some bouncing and activities, our special guest Princess Rapunzel arrived! I have to give it up to the folks at Party Princess Productions. Rapunzel was beautiful and so in character, I never got her real name! Rapunzel came and greeted all of the guests, and then began story time. She read a condensed version of Tangled and then sang live. Check out the youtube videos for some of Party Princess Productions’ actresses and you can see and hear clips of them singing. They are all amazing! After singing, it was time for Prince and Princess lessons. This was the cutest thing ever. Rapunzel talked about Princes and Princesses having good manners and had everyone practice saying please and thank you. She taught them to wave, had them practice their best smiles, and even how to curtsy and bow. The boys were so enthralled by her and hung on her every word and all valiantly bowed. After a bit of dancing, Rapunzel did face painting on every child at the party, and even brought crayons and coloring pages to keep them busy while they waited for their turn. Once everyone had had a turn, we moved the dessert table towards the center of the patio and had everyone gather to sing Happy Birthday with Rapunzel leading us all! As guests began trying out the amazing desserts (click here for more details), Rapunzel posed for pictures with the kids in front of our Wanted poster of Flynn Ryder.
Thank you to all of our guests for making this such a special and memorable birthday for Marisa!! And special thanks to my husband for putting up with my crazy every time I throw a party.
